Sand in My Bra: An Inspiring and Hilarious Read

I love it when you read a book that makes you laugh out loud. While you’re sitting on a bus, on break at work, or sitting home alone, people will hear you and wonder what’s so funny? And Sand in My Bra is definitely that kind of book.

“travel is a comedy waiting to happen”

Sand in My Bra and Other Misadventures is a collection of short stories, and excerpts from books, written by women. And in some way shape or form all the stories revolve around woman and travel.

There are tales about everything from the misadventures of lovers abroad to dealings with over protective parents. While all of the stories will make you laugh, some will also inspire you to dare to dream and then live those dreams. Like the title story, Sand in My Bra.

Burning Man

In Sand in My Bra a group of ladies head to the fantastical Burning Man. And its Christine Nielsen’s honest portrayal of getting into the spirit that drew me in. Oh, and the wacky gal dressed in a wedding dress and blue wig. It’s all about living out loud!

I could totally relate to so many of the ladies and their travel tales. Like in The Perils of Leisure, when Sandra Tsing Loh expresses her desire to feel comfortable in her proverbial ‘old’ and ‘fat’ body in a swim suit among young, thin, 20 somethings in Tahiti. Or the interesting, or dare I say weird folk you meet along your travels, like in The Summer of the Lost Ham. It’s these characters that we encounter that create some of the most memorable moments along our road.

One of the funniest was Panic In Any Other Language, when Nancy Bartlett encounters what many of us travelling women have. The dreaded period. And, in a foreign country where you barely speak the language, nor know the nuances, it can be downright horrible when you’re in need of supplies. Or in this case hilarious!

If you’re in need of a feel good book that will not only make you laugh out loud, but inspire you, than Sand in My Bra is just what you need.
