Seaside Charm in Jersey at Maison Chaussey Guest House
The sea seemed to stretch out forever. Yet the coast of France lay only 22 kilometres away. And here at Maison Chaussey Guest House on the wee island of Jersey in the Channel Islands I felt like I was swept away to some dreamy paradise.
Maison Chaussey Guest House
The Maison Chaussey Guest House is located in Jersey’s capital city of St. Helier. Just a 15 minute walk from downtown, this charming Guest House is situated in Havre des Pas, a delightful suburb east of St. Helier. This residential neighbourhood is home to great restaurants and runs along the Jersey shore. There’s a lovely path that runs along the coast, making for a great evening stroll.
The Maison Chaussey Guest House is family run with eight en-suite rooms. Some rooms even have balconies offering sea views. All rooms have a television, tea & coffee maker with biscuits, a desk, and free Wi-Fi.
The Guest House also boasts a wonderful restaurant on the ground floor. Drifters Restaurant offers delicious traditional home cooked meals, with great portions. You can eat inside or dine out on the terrace overlooking the sea.
After initially taking a wrong turn, making the 15 minute walk from the downtown bus station into an hour long adventure, I arrived at the Maison Chaussey Guest House. With its bright blue awnings adding a pop of colour to the otherwise quiet stretch of buildings, I wandered in. A lovely lady greeted me and quickly checked me in and showed me to my room.
Walking up the two flights of stairs I was thanking myself for packing light. She gently opened the door to my room and I thought how perfect! After staying in a hostel for the past two nights I was excited to have my own en-suite bathroom. She told me when breakfast was served and when the restaurant opened for dinner and we said our goodbyes.
I reserved a single room which was perfect for me. A small yet comfortable bed, coffee in room, and all impeccably clean, it was all I needed. Plus I loved the proximity to town – once I found the proper route. And I was happy to hear, after speaking with one of the owners, that the bus stops just outside.
The first night of my stay I was famished. I ordered the Rib Espetada that was mouth-watering delicious! It was a giant shish kabab of tender beef with rice, a salad, and divine Portuguese potatoes. And even the waiters, a Frenchman and a Scot were just delightful and eager to share their tips on what to do in Jersey.
Every morning of my stay I enjoyed a different breakfast. They offer full English breakfast or their popular Scottish breakfast, as well as small and lighter options. All were delicious.
I loved my stay at Maison Chaussey Guest House. The staff were all friendly, sweet, and honestly delightful. The room was great, as was the convenient restaurant and fabulous food. And I couldn’t have asked for a better location. Only a 15 minute walk from downtown, yet right on the bus route. Plus the neighbourhood was absolutely charming and I loved wandering along the shore in the evenings after dinner, and even venturing out into the sea, via staircases down from the shore path, when the tide was out. All this and affordable!
Would I recommend staying at Maison Chaussey Guest House? I certainly would! Whether you’re a single traveller like me or a family – they have everything you need.
