Sensational Places to Eat in Saskatoon: Breakfast to Dinner Guide

Foodies, if you’re looking for the next best place to add to your foodie bucket list in Canada, then start planning a trip to Saskatchewan! I spent 2 weeks in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and was blown away by the food scene. Not only is there a thriving farm to fork culture but there’s a diverse range of places to eat in Saskatoon.

As a hub for agriculture, many restaurants in Saskatoon pay respect to the prairie farmlands that surround it. I found everything from Saskatoon berries in desserts and cocktails to homemade pasta made from the local grains.

Beyond the incredible fresh, farm to table menus, I love that the city is rich international cuisines that include everything from Afghani and Eritrean to Mexican.

So, forks up and let’s dig into some of my favourite places to eat in the city that include everything from breakfast spots to where to eat dinner. Plus, if you can’t decide on what to get, I’m sharing my top picks for what to order too!

Hearth Restaurant

One of the best places to dine in Saskatoon with views is Hearth! Serving up prairie inspired dishes, it offers fantastic fresh food with views of the South Saskatchewan River.

The restaurant is located within the Remai Modern and even has a section where you can look into the art gallery! Hearth’s vibe is classy but unpretentious, with clean lines and a spark of whimsy. (Look up at the light fixture!)

You’ll find a variety of dishes, from small plates to mains, with vegetarians to carnivores in mind. In addition to the a la carte dinner menu at Hearth, they also have a 5-course tasting menu.

What to order? Start with the mushrooms appetizer that features wild and cultivated mushrooms in a mornay sauce and house ciabatta. Even though I’m not a fan of mushrooms – it was delicious! For the main, I went with their fried chicken boneless leg with thyme and chives, cheesy grits, and spicy slaw. It was amazing!

Loqui

When asked what my favourite restaurant in Saskatoon is, it’s so hard! After eating at so many great places during my trip to Saskatoon, it’s a tie between Hearth and Loqui!

Loqui is a relatively new restaurant on the Saskatoon food scene, they opened in 2024. They have an incredible internationally inspired menu that uses local ingredients. I love that they use local ingredients in not only their dishes but also in their fab cocktails.

Located in the Riversdale neighbourhood, the building stands out as a stylish modern gem in the area. Inside it has a mid-century modern aesthetic with international décor accents.

This is a great spot for those with dietary restrictions! You’ll find a variety of vegan and gluten free options – but carnivores, don’t worry there’s meat too.

What to order? I was lucky to eat at Loqui twice during my visit and loved their Khao Soi, which is one of their top selling dishes. It comes with chicken or tofu in a northern Thai curry served on to of rive noodles.

On my second visit I enjoyed their Loqui Tiger Steak as well as a number of great appetizers like lentil fries and their squash – which was the best I’ve EVER had.

Insider Tip: This is a great place to go for a date night or meal with friends as the menu is full of sharable plates.

Four pasta dishes at Primal restaurant in Saskatoon
Primal’s ricotta cavatelli was delicious

Primal

The best restaurant for Italian food in Saskatoon is Primal! With Italian blood running through my veins and a passion for pasta, believe me when I say this is some of the best you’ll find in Canada.

Located in the Riversdale neighbourhood, the menu at Primal features a mix of sharable plates, mains and a 5-course meal option. They are best known for their incredible handmade pasta that uses grains from the farms of Saskatchewan.

What to order? For sharable small plates, I recommend the house made fried bread and the endive salad with blue cheese, almond pesto, apple, sprouts and candied nuts. As for the main, I loved the ricotta cavatelli with basil almond pesto and parmesan. But leave room for dessert and try their butterscotch budino.

Seasoned

If you’re looking for a great vegan meal in Saskatoon then I highly recommend Seasoned! Located in the heart of downtown, it’s also great if you’re looking for a quick bite to eat. I found the service and timing really good and fast.

The menu at Seasoned is large and features Asian fusion dishes that range from soups to rice and vermicelli bowls. They have a huge menu that includes lots of vegan options as well as gluten friendly ones.

What to order? I ordered the Vegan Lemon Chicken and it was so good! The portion was large.  My friend got the Vegan Crispy Spring Rolls and Vegan Pho, she loved both.

Odla

Another amazing farm to table restaurant in Saskatoon is Odla. Located in the Broadway neighbourhood, I love their mission statement – “your food shouldn’t travel farther than you do.”

Odla sources local ingredients from over 50 produces to masterfully create each of their mouth-watering dishes. Much like Loqui, the menu at Odla has a variety of dishes that are perfect for sharing as well as mains.

And if you’re looking for an epic feast, try their 4-course tasting menu. Just note that everyone at the table has to order it.

What to order? I thankfully got to try a number of their small plates. Stand outs were the sourdough bread, Brussel sprouts, pâté, carrots, and the cauliflower! For my main, I ordered the crispy pork schnitzel topped with a Caesar salad. My friend ordered the short rib, with celeriac puree and chimichurri, which looked amazing too.

Best Breakfast Restaurants in Saskatoon

Hometown Diner

My favourite place that I ate breakfast in Saskatoon is Hometown Diner! It was a short walk from where I was staying in the Riversdale neighbourhood and offers a fun vibe.

It has a modern diner feel, with hanging plants, exposed brick walls, and matt black exposed beams. But I loved the nod to classic retro diners with their white mugs with their name on them.

The menu at Hometown Diner is diverse! You’ll find everything from various eggs bennies to fried chicken on pancakes. Plus, they have a number of vegetarian options too.

Every dish is made using fresh ingredients and from scratch in their kitchen. So, there’s no surprise it’s such a popular spot.

What to order? I went with the Traditional breakfast which came with two eggs done your way, a choice of bacon, ham or sausage, and a side – I went with the hashbrowns. Plus, I couldn’t resist a cup of coffee since they use a Canadian brand – Pilot Coffee Roasters.

Poached Breakfast Bistro

One of the most popular breakfast spots in downtown Saskatoon is Poached Breakfast Bistro. As soon as I walked in, I could see why!

The vibe is stylish eclectic with plants and partially exposed red-bricked walls topped with modern art, yet a casual atmosphere. But the fun part is that it’s a brunch spot by day and transforms into the Flint Saloon at night.

Poached Breakfast Bistro’s menu features definitely elevated dishes. You’ll find a variety of eggs benedict as well as dishes like poached eggs over crab and shrimp risotto cakes.

What to order? For a classic morning meal, I ordered the Breakfast Plate, which came with two eggs and a choice of multiple sides. I chose the farmer’s sausage and potato croquettes.

Everything bagel with cream cheese on a tray at Bagel Shop
the Bagel Shop bagels are so fresh!

Bagel Shop

If you’re looking for quick cheap places to eat in Saskatoon then pop into the Bagel Shop. Located in the Riversdale neighbourhood, they make fresh bagels every morning.

You’ll find classic cream cheese varieties, as well as a vegan option, and an array of other bagel sandwiches. There’s everything from chicken to pastrami to top off your bagel.

And this isn’t your typical bagel shop, they smoke their pastrami, roast their turkey and cur their lox in-house!

What to order? I loved their dill cream cheese, which the server recommended and was delicious, on an everything bagel. Plus, I paired it with a coffee and loved that they use Pilot Roaster Coffee from Toronto!

Chicken and rice meal at Afghan Kabob & Donair
Tandoori chicken with rice and salad

Afghan Kabob & Donair

Another one of my favourite downtown Saskatoon restaurants was Afghan Kabob & Donair.

Serving up authentic Afghani and middle eastern food, you’ll find a mix of kabob and Donair dishes on their menu. However, it was the special lamb shank dish that drew us here, as that was what my friend wanted for his birthday.

Unlike many restaurants where you seat and your order is taken at the table, here, you order first and then sit. Then they bring you your food.

What to order? I had the tandoori chicken fry, which came with rice and salad, and was so flavourful! My other friend ordered the falafel Donair plate, which I did try and it was also really good!

the massive Farmers Club sandwich

HomeQuarter Coffeehouse & Bakery

If you’re looking for an off-the-beaten-path place to enjoy a hearty lunch or quick breakfast, HomeQuarter is the place to go! As one of my favourite coffee shops in Saskatoon, they also have a list of fun drinks like a butter tart latte!

HomeQuarter is located in the Riversdale neighbourhood, across from the Local Gather Market. They make fresh bread daily, so your sandwiches are always top-notch.

This cozy cafe has a number of little nooks to catch up with friends or work – I was thrilled to find the bar seating along the window had plenty of plugs. Plus, they give you wooden spoons with numbers for when they bring you food – so adorable!

What to order? I ordered their Farmer’s Club, which was huge and came with a side of ruffle potato chips, which I loved!

Large vegetable patter with injera.

Dahlak Eritrean Restaurant

One of the most unique meals I had during my visit was at Dahlak Eritrean Restaurant. Located downtown, their menu features dishes from Eritrean and Ethiopia.

In addition, they also have some Italian menu items too. I recommend visiting with a group, so that you can share a few platters. It was my first time trying Eritrean food and loved the diversity in flavours and the injera (a sourdough-risen flatbread) was perfect for scooping up the different food.

What to order? I visited with a group of friends and we shared an order or a veggie and a meat platter, which was the perfect amount of food for four people. Plus, if you’ve never had Eritrean food before, it’s the best way to try different things.

Broadway Café

One of the cutest places to eat in the Broadway neighbourhood is the Broadway Café. This staple has been dishing out food for over 30 years.

I loved the 1950’s retro diner vibe, with the movie memorabilia on the walls as well as the red chairs and table tops. Best known for their all-day breakfast and epic milkshakes, the menu at Broadway Cafe has everything from wraps to sandwiches and burgers to quesadillas.

What to order? While it’s a great place for breakfast, we visited after lunch so I went with the cheese burger and fries but my friend had the spicy black bean veggie burger, which also looked good!

Fiesta Tacos & Tequila

In the heart of downtown Saskatoon, you can enjoy a lively Mexican meal at Fiesta Tacos & Tequila. This colourful restaurant had some of the friendliest staff.

The menu at Fiesta Tacos has a long list of tacos, including their signature QuesaBirria tacos, as well as fun drinks like handcrafted margaritas. It’s a great spot to eat if you have dietary restrictions as they have options for vegan, halal, and gluten-friendly.

What to order? I opted for a refried bean and a Gringo taco with a side of guacamole with chips. Everything was delicious! My friend had the vegan burrito, which she said was really good.
