Amazing Places to Go Apple Picking in Ontario this Fall
Looking for fun fall activities? One of my favourites is to go apple picking. Who can resist hopping aboard a wagon to take you into the orchards, being surrounded by brilliant fall foliage and enjoying some fresh apples?! Plus, it’s the perfect activity to do with friends or kids.
With over 15,000 acres of apple orchards in Ontario, there are plenty of places to go apple picking. Did you know that one of the largest apple producers in Canada is Ontario? With all that in mind, I’ve created a guide to the best places to go apple picking in Ontario to help you find one near you. In addition, you’ll learn when to go and what types of apples grow here.
When is apple picking season in Ontario?
Apple season in Ontario is in September and into October. However, there are a variety of things to consider like weather, the type of apple, and the region. Peak season for apple picking is in the middle of September.
What types of apples are grown in Ontario?
There are over 15 different varieties of apples grown across southern Ontario. The most popular include McIntosh, Empire, Red Delicious and Honey Crisp. You’ll find that many Ontario apple orchards grow a selection of apples.

Best Farms for Apple Picking in Ontario
Pingle’s Farm Market
The best apple picking in Ontario is at Pingle’s Farm Market!
For over 30 years, Pingle’s Farm has been a beloved spot to visit. With nearly 150 acres, the farm is located 5 minutes east of Oshawa and has a 15-acre apple orchard.
They have 10 different apple varieties that include favourites like McIntosh and Royal Gala. Apple picking season at Pingle’s is throughout September.
A visit to Pingle’s Farm’s Harvest Festival is one of the top things to do in the fall! In addition to pick your own apples, they have a corn maze, wagon rides, and so much more! One of my favourite things about the Harvest Festival is the epic food that’s available! Think Instagrammable cozy fall drinks and tasty treats.
Pingle’s is a great place to visit beyond fall! They have other fun events as well as pick your own options, like strawberries. And be sure to pop into their farm market for some goodies to bring home!
Insider Tip: For a budget-friendly day trip, grab tickets to visit for a Wednesday, tickets are under $10!

Applewood Farm
For over 40 years, the Passafiume family has welcomed visitors to Applewood Farm. Now run by three generations, and located just west of Whitchurch-Stouffville, Applewood is a perfect spot for a fall day trip with family or friends.
What started as one of Ontario’s first pick-your-own strawberry and apple farms has grown into a fun destination with over 30 acres of apple orchards featuring more than ten varieties, from Ambrosia to McIntosh. Beyond apple picking, you’ll find a children’s play area, wagon rides, a corn maze, and farm animals.
With wagon rides, fresh apples, and plenty of family fun, Applewood Farm makes fall unforgettable.

Archibald Orchards & Winery
One of my favourite apple orchards in Ontario goes beyond their amazing apples, but for their warm welcoming EVERY time I visit. That place is Archibald Orchards & Winery.
With a long tradition of growing apples, since 1967, they started offering pick your own apples in the early 1980s, and clearly know what they’re doing.
Home to close to 10,000 trees, the farm is located in Bowmanville and makes for the perfect Durham region day trip. The farm grows a dozen different types of apples, everything from Silken to Wild Pink.
Beyond being one of the best places for pick your own apples in Ontario, they are also a winery! You can enjoy a tasting of their award-winning apple wines, which include a few non-alcoholic ones.
Archibald Orchards & Winery is a great spot to enjoy on an afternoon fall day trip with the whole family. Go apple picking, indulge in a tasting and let the kids romp around in their farm-inspired playground.
Insider Tip: I highly recommend grabbing one or two of their caramel apple dumplings, they are delicious and the perfect fall treat!

Maxwell Apple Orchards
When it comes to pick your own apples in Ontario, the most northerly apple-producing region is South Georgian Bay. And one of the best places to visit in Collingwood in the fall is Maxwell Apple Orchards.
This family-run farm, once known as Meesters Farms, has been growing fresh fruit and vegetables for over 30 years. They grow an incredible 24 varieties of apples, from Honeycrisp to Gala, with harvest running from August through early November.
Their Farm Market is open daily from May to October, stocked with sweet corn, berries, and of course, apples. If you visit in mid-September, you can even try their fresh-pressed cider—a true taste of fall.

Barrie Hill Farms
One of my favourite places to go apple picking near me is at Barrie Hill Farms!
As one of the best places to visit in Barrie, Barrie Hill Farms is a great spot to visit in the fall. Every year they offer apple picking that starts at the end of August and runs through early November. Apple varieties include everything from McIntosh to Honey Crisp and Cortland to Empire.
It’s also home to one of the best fall festivals, which takes place mid-September. The Harvest Festival boasts a number of fun features like live music, wagon rides and even fall strawberry picking. But my favourite thing about the festival is their tasty treats.
Beyond the fall and apple picking, the farm is staple in the eat local culture in Simcoe County. For over 40 years, it’s been a spot for locals to buy farm fresh produce, preserves and more.

Best Places for Apple Picking near Toronto
Chudleigh’s Entertainment Farm
Just a short drive from Toronto, Chudleigh’s Entertainment Farm is one of the best spots for apple picking in Ontario—and the name really says it all! For over 50 years, they’ve been welcoming families to experience farm life and enjoy a true taste of fall.
I was blown away by how huge this farm is and ended up spending a few hours there! It has more than 47,000 trees across 60 acres and over 20 varieties of apples to pick from, starting in mid-August through October.
But it’s not just about apples here. Chudleigh’s has grown into a full day of fun with activities for all ages—think scarecrow making, tractor rides, and play areas. I loved the nature trail, the fun photo-ops, and indulging in food at their restaurant, treats in the market and their own hard cider.
If you’re looking for a fall outing packed with memories, this Milton farm is the place to be.

Carl Laidlaw Orchards
If you’re looking for apple picking in Brampton, Carl Laidlaw Orchards is a must. This seven-generation family farm is one of Ontario’s top apple orchards. Set on 100 acres in the beautiful Credit River Valley, they grow over 20 kinds of apples along with a few varieties of pears.
But there’s so much more to enjoy here than just the orchards. You can take a wagon ride, wander through the corn maze or sunflower field, and even visit the farm animals. When it’s time for a break, grab some apple cider or corn.
Open on weekends in September and October, this dog-friendly spot is perfect for a fall outing—just be sure to call ahead before you go.

Dixie Orchards
If you’re searching for fun things to do in Caledon, Dixie Orchards is a spot you’ll love. Tucked between the villages of Inglewood and Caledon East, this family farm has something for everyone. For roughly $7, a Farm Pass gives you access to the orchards and all the activities on-site.
Of course, apple picking is the highlight, but you can hop on a wagon ride, meet the animals and visit one of the best sunflower fields near Toronto. Plus, there’s a corn maze, straw jump, and even a hazelnut orchard where you can pick your own nuts.
Before you leave, stop by the market for fresh produce, baked goods, honey, maple syrup, cider, candied apples, home décor, and more. Dixie Orchards really is one of the best fall day trips near Toronto.
Insider Tip: If you plan to visit on a weekend, I recommend grabbing tickets ahead of time.
