Nothing says summer in Ontario than fields of sunflowers! To me sunflower fields in Ontario always mean season is in full swing. And a visit to a sunflower farm is the perfect way to spend a summer day. You can’t help but smile when you see all the sunflowers standing tall and facing the sun.

If you’re looking for things to do in Ontario in the summer then consider visiting one of the many sunflower fields. They make for a great day trip with the family or friends and are awesome places to add to any summer road trip! And while this isn’t a complete list of all of the sunflower fields in Ontario, it’s some of the best!

You’ll find sunflower farms all over southern Ontario! Some are on working farms and offer other attractions and things to do while some are strictly fields to wander. I’ve collected my top picks for sunflower farms in Ontario that you should add to your summer bucket list!

Sunflower Fields in Simcoe County

I had to start local so I’m sharing the best sunflower fields near me, here in Simcoe County! I still remember when I first moved to Simcoe County from Toronto 30 years ago. I had no idea there were SO MANY fields of sunflowers close by. And if you’re looking for things to do in Simcoe County in the summer then try one of these awesome farms.

Rounds Ranch

One of the best places in Ontario to see sunflowers is Rounds Ranch in Elmvale. There’s so much to do and see at Rounds Ranch so be sure to plan to spend the day there. If you’re looking for a great day trip from Barrie, especially with kids, Rounds Ranch is ideal. There’s a corn maze, petting zoo, lookout tower, a sunflower field, and a bunch of other kid-friendly activities.

But for me, the best part of Rounds Round is the sunflowers. They have seven acres and over 30 varieties of sunflowers. I had no idea there were so many kinds! There are the traditional ones with yellow petals, ones with maroon petals, and many more! And there are plenty of photo opportunities throughout the field. You’ll find a large photo frame, wagon, and even a pretty door. But be sure to take a photo of the map before you enter so you don’t miss one. Plus, it’s like a real sunflower maze!

Another fun thing about Rounds Ranch is that they offer a unique experience. You can pick your own sunflowers. Yes, that’s right! You can pay extra to get a tall pail and a pair of snippers and pick your own sunflowers during your walk through the field. How cool is that?!

Edwards Farm

I was thrilled to find this great farm that is less than five minutes from my house! Edwards Farm is home to a great farm store selling local vegetables, meat, honey, jams, and more fun stuff. And they are home to one of the three sunflower fields in Innisfil.

Edwards Farm have a large field with winding pathways through their giant sunflower field. It doesn’t get more picturesque then a rural farm with giant sunflowers, barns, and fields for days!

Laura’s Farm Stand

I must say I count myself lucky to live so close to so many of Ontario’s sunflower fields! Another one in Simcoe County is located just south of Thornton. This is a great stop for those heading north for the weekend or for those looking for sunflower farms near Barrie.

And if you haven’t been to Thornton, if you’re an ice cream fan you should! This tiny little blip on Simcoe County Road 27 is home to a bunch of ice cream shops! So, be sure to stop in for a cone after you visit the adorable sunflower patch at Laura’s Farm Stand.

Laura’s Farm Stand is your typical Ontario farm stand with all the great summer farm-fresh goodies, like corn and green beans. She has the biggest zucchini I’ve ever seen!

Sunflower Fields of Markham

One of the best sunflower farms in Ontario that’s close to Toronto is in Markham. This farm is home to over 400,000 sunflowers set on over 20 acres.

If you’re looking for fun things to do in Markham in the summer, this is the place to go! Sunflower Fields of Markham is conveniently located on Highway 48 and just north of Major Mackenzie.

These sunflower fields are set on a beautiful century old farm. The family have been farming in the area for over 60 years. In 2021 the family’s third generation of farmers opened their sunflower fields.

Robintide Farms

If you’re looking for a budget-friendly sunflower farm near Toronto then plan a day trip to Robintide Farms! This hidden gem in King City is a fun farm to visit in the summer. You can walk the sunflower field, filled with towering stalks. And it’s only $5! You’ll find a few photo-ops in the field too!

Plus, there’s plenty more to do on the farm beyond the sunflower walk. You can pick your own vegetables too! During my visit we picked our own garlic and potatoes which was fun. It was much different than your typical berries, these you had to work for them. And don’t miss the market! We grabbed some of their green onions too, and they were huge!

Hanes Sunflower Maze

A great summer day trip from Toronto for families and those looking for fun can be found in Dundas! At Hanes you’ll find a ton of things to do! They have a play area, escape rooms, barnyard animals, and one of the largest corn mazes in Canada.

If you’re looking for sunflowers then you’ll love their sunflower maze! The grand opening is scheduled for the end of July!

Davis Family Farm

Another great farm near Toronto is Davis Family Farm. Located only 30 minutes from Toronto, in picturesque rolling hills of Caledon, Davis Family Farm is home to a 45 acre sunflower field. This four-generation family farm is one of the top places to visit in Caledon!

It has everything from pumpkins in the fall to Christmas trees in the winter. And of course, sunflowers in the summer! Many consider it the best sunflower farm in Ontario!

Take a stroll along 3 km trail through their “field of dreams.” You can even purchase some of their sunflower related products like, sunflower oil, sunflower honey, and sunflower seeds which your backyard birds will love you for this winter!

One of the most picturesque areas in the province, full of European-like places in Ontario, is Prince Edward County. So, it’s no surprise that it’s also home to a beautiful sunflower field.

Sunnydale Farms is a seven-generation family farm. Their 25 acre sunflower patch is home to 650,000 bright sunflowers and pathways to walk among them. But be sure to pick up some of their famous popcorn before you leave.

Another of the top sunflower fields in Ontario that is a must-visit is The Sunflower Farm in Beaverton. This awesome sunflower field covers 10 acres and is the largest and first sunflower farm in Durham Region.

Enjoy a stroll along their sunflower trail and snap some photos at all the fun photo ops! I also love their little shop with fun merchandise!

Sunflower Fields

Minutes south of Picton is a cute little road side shop selling ice cream that’s a blooming good time! Whether you’re looking for a summer time scoop or fun places to visit in Prince Edward County, the Sunflower Fields Ice Cream Shoppe is a winning destination!

The shop sells a long list of Kawartha Dairy ice cream flavours as well as non-dairy gelato, Reid’s Dairy soft ice cream, and more!

Surrounding the shop in the summer is a glorious field of yellow sunshine. Throughout the sunflower field visitors will find fun photo-ops to grab the perfect selfie with. Plus, if you’re visiting with your pup, dogs are permitted, as long as they are leashed.

Ontario is full of amazing farms that are great to visit! Many farms in Ontario harvest sunflowers and so have sunflower fields that you can visit. Every year more are popping up!

Pingle’s Farm – Pingle’s Farm Market can be found in Clarington. Here you’ll find a classic year-round farmers market selling the best of fresh Ontario grown produce, a pumpkin patch, strawberry filed, and more. And of course, they offer a sunflower experience in a field of over 100,000 blooms. The sunflower trail takes about 30 mintutes.

Bragg Farm – Another great farm in Ontario with a sunflower patch is Bragg Farm. This over 150-year-old farm is located in Bowmanville has been a family-run farm for eight generations. Along with a retail store and pick your own potatoes, Bragg Farm is now home to a sunflower field.

The Fieldstone Barn – In one of Ontario’s picturesque small towns you’ll find another great sunflower field. There are so many things to do in Elora and in the summer you can enjoy sunflower blooms at Fieldstone Barn. Their Sunflower of Elora experience has a ton of fun photo ops like a blue couch, a Love sign, and so many more.

Tips for Visiting Sunflower Farms in Ontario

There are always a list of guidelines at every sunflower field. And you should remember, these are working farms and many times are where people live and work. So, it’s always best to be mindful of that as well as a few key tips.

When to Visit

Sunflower season in Ontario runs from late July through to the middle of August. However, while this is the normal time to find Sunflowers in bloom it also depends on the weather and where in Ontario you’re going. Always check the farm’s website or social media before you go to make sure they are open and in bloom.

What to Bring

As I mentioned above, sunflowers bloom in the middle of summer. So, this is the peak of summer in Ontario and can be very hot. Be sure to stay hydrated! Other things you might want to consider bringing are a hat, sunscreen, and a cooler too! Most, if not all, of these farms have a food stall or store to grab some fresh produce and local goods that you’ll want to bring home or to the cottage, so a cooler is key!

Take ONLY Photos

Sunflower farms in Ontario are so picturesque and are a great place to visit and take photos. But that’s it, take only photos. Do not pick the sunflowers or touch them. Except for at Rounds Ranch. Most of these sunflower fields are to be harvested.

Bees

Bee mindful (see what I did there, lol). Many farms, especially those with sunflowers are home to a wealth of bees. They help pollinate and make things grow! So, be aware, especially if you have a bee allergy. But if you don’t bug them, they won’t bug you.

A few other things to keep in mind when visiting these farms as most do not have public washroom facilities, so plan accordingly. Most farms also do not allow pets as they can disrupt the livestock and plants. Last, but not least, have fun!
