Things to do in Kivi Park in Winter
Skiing
With over 20 km of ski trails, Kivi Park is a dream destination in Ontario for skiers! The best part is that you can enjoy classic cross country and skate skiing at Kivi Park.
Trail lengths range from 1 to 10.5 km, making it a great spot for those just trying cross country skiing for the first time. You can start on the short trails or if you are more experienced, there’s longer trails for you too.
Plus, if you don’t have skis, there’s a provider at the park that you can rent them from.
TIP: Trail conditions change, so check their website to find out when the ski trails were last groomed.

Snowshoeing
My favourite thing to do in the park in the winter is go snowshoeing!
With a large network that offers trails ranging from 1 to 7 km, you can winter hike or snowshoe for as short or long as you’d like. Especially since the trails connect to expand for bigger loops.
One of my favourite snowshoe trails in Ontario is at Kivi Park! It includes combining the yellow trail from the visitor centre with the orange Trail. Combining both makes it roughly 3 km and includes the park’s iconic Wishing Tree and a lookout.

Ice Skate
Kivi Park is also home to one of the most magical ice-skating trails in the province!
Winding through the scenic forests of Kivi Park is Nina’s Way. This 1.3 km skating trail is a fun way to experience the park.
There’s a hut at the start of the trail where you can sit and put on your skates. Plus, it offers an even more magical experience if you wait for the darkness to descend. The trail is lit with twinkling lights, so you can skate the trail at night.
One thing to keep in mind is that because it’s an outdoor skate trail, conditions can change quickly with rise in temperatures. But it’s typically open 11 am – 9 pm.
Insider Tip: There are no skate rentals available at the park, you’ll need to bring your own.

Go Fat Biking
One of the coolest things to do in the winter in Sudbury is hop on a fat bike at Kivi Park!
I still remember the first time I tried fat biking was a few years ago in the summer at Kivi. But in the winter, it’s a whole different kind of fun.
Whether you have your own or rent one at the park, you can enjoy over 15 km of biking trails. There are straight stretches as well as twisty bits that will keep you on your toes. Plus, some flat areas as well as plenty of ups and downs.

Cozy up by the fire
Whether you need a break in between activities or a spot to warm up after, there’s a cozy firepit near the visitor’s centre. It’s the perfect spot sit and relax in one of the Muskoka chairs that circle the fire.
You can also grab a hot beverage if you’d like too! Beside the firepit area is the Wishing Tree Cafe that serves up local coffee from Old Rock. Plus, you’ll find soup and tasty baked treats too.
